Millvale Market opening offers easier access to food for local residents

MILLVALE, Pa. — Millvale has an available grocery store for the first time in more than 20 years with the opening of the Millvale Market.

The market welcomes its first customers and people in the area say it is a much-needed addition to the community.

“This was basically a food desert until they opened,” said shopper Airen Germesin.

Another resident said the biggest appeal is how accessible it is for people who do not drive or want to walk.

“We love it. It’s great. Definitely needed. We have no markets you can walk to in town,” said Millvale resident Santana Morrow.

The small neighborhood grocery store and coffee shop is located on Grant and North Avenues. Co-owner Jen Saffron is hoping to fill a void in Millvale.

“I think there’s been a lot of anticipation about having a grocery store in Millvale for a long time,” said Saffron.

The market sells fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers.

MIllvale Market will be open 6 days a week, Tuesday through Sunday.
