Mother charged with endangerment in Uniontown tot death

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A southwestern Pennsylvania woman has been charged with child endangerment for allegedly failing to seek prompt medical treatment before her 20-month-old daughter died of suspected physical abuse.

The girl's father, 30-year-old Domer Burkholder Jr. of Uniontown, has been jailed since November on charges including criminal homicide, but denies harming the child. Police say Caylee Jo Burkholder died Nov. 15 at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of blunt force injuries consistent with physical abuse.

Jessica Burkholder, the girl's 28-year-old mother, was charged Monday for allegedly failing to provide medical care to the girl upon learning of her injuries. She's free on bond pending a preliminary hearing Jan. 15.

Investigators believe the girl was struck in the abdomen.

The court has yet to appoint an attorney to represent Jessica Burkholder.
