Neighbors say garbage, junk has been piling up outside North Side home for years

NORTH SIDE, Pa. -- — A North Side man contacted Channel 11 News for help with a major problem -- trash and debris piling up outside his neighbor’s home for a long time.

John Nicopulos said he’s disgusted and feels like a prisoner in his own home.

“If you lived here, how would you feel?” Nicopulos said. “It goes up to my fence.”

According to Nicopulos, the large piles of trash, boxes and other junk have been staring at him every time he leaves his Maple Avenue home for the past five years.

“It continues to get worse, and as you can see, it was by the porch but now it’s all the way out to the sidewalk,” he said.

Other neighbors agree and said the homeowner has been regularly dumping garbage, boxes and food outside for years.

Channel 11 News has learned the owner was found guilty nearly a dozen times in 2009 and 2011 for overgrown weeds, refuse accumulation and poor maintenance. He was also fined more than $1,600 for dumping trash and debris.

However, none of the fines were ever paid, and the cases in 2011 were eventually dismissed.

The mayor’s spokesperson said the city has contacted the Bureau of Building Inspectors.

“We will be contacting the owner and trying to bring this to a swift solution,” the spokesperson said.
