New partners to take over Nied’s Hotel with goal of reviving its legend

PITTSBURGH — Jim Nied ran his family’s Nied’s Hotel business for more than 40 years, but now a group of partners that include the owners of live music venue Spirit are working to reopen Nied’s with an approach that acknowledges it as a neighborhood legend while also establishing it as a boutique hotel, renovating its 13 guest rooms and adding some of their own flavor to the food and beverage program.

Partners Brigette Davitt, Mary Verratti, Tom Barr and Leigh Yock presented their new plans for Nied’s Hotel to a community meeting hosted by Lawrenceville United and Lawrenceville Corp. on Wednesday evening. It was an update triggered by the liquor license transfer to enable the new ownership to take on the three-story, 19th-century property at the corner of Butler and 55th Streets.
