NFL Commissioner says league considering eliminating extra point

NEW YORK — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is looking into proposals to abolish the extra point.

Goodell told the NFL Network "the extra point is almost automatic."

He said one proposal being tossed around is to automatically award seven points for a touchdown and then allow teams to go for an eighth point with a passing or running play. If the team fails to convert when going for eight, they would lose a point, earning six total points for the touchdown.
