Driver taken into custody following fatal single-vehicle crash in Hays

PITTSBURGH — A man was taken into police custody Saturday morning after the vehicle he was driving overturned in Pittsburgh’s Hays neighborhood, killing his passenger.

According to investigators, it is believed that the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee lost control and hit a parked car before overturning off of Mooney Road shortly after 1 a.m.

The passenger in the Jeep, Jason Sedlak, 25, of Munhall, was killed.

The 32-year-old driver, who has not been identified, ran from the crash after a witness helped him out of the vehicle. Police later found him sitting in a nearby wooded area. He was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for examination.

Investigators said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
