Penguins acquire Alex Nylander in exchange for Sam Lafferty

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Alex Nylander from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Sam Lafferty, the team announced on Wednesday.

23-year-old Nylander carries an average annual value of $874,125 and is signed through the 2021-22 season.

Nylander has 84 NHL games under his belt, and has 13 goals, 19 assists and 32 points between his time with the Blackhawks and the Buffalo Sabres. He’s also played 188 career AHL games, and has split this season between the Rockford IceHogs and Chicago’s taxi squad.

The Calgary, AB native was named the CHL and OHL Rookie of the Year for the 2015-16 season, when he played junior hockey with the Mississuaga Steelheads.
