Pittsburgh city council president joins race for mayor

PITTSBURGH — The current president of the Pittsburgh City Council confirms that she is now in the race to become the city's next mayor.

Darlene Harris confirmed her candidacy with Channel 11's Rick Earle on Monday.

On Friday, current Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced that he would not seek re-election.

Earle reported that Harris began circulating a petition for candidacy Monday.

WPXI Political Analyst Bill Green also confirmed that former Auditor General Jack Wagner is doing the same.

Currently, Chelsa Wagner is leading the charge since Jack Wagner is out of town until Friday.

Candidates have until March 12 to submit their paperwork.

City Councilman Bill Peduto and Controller Michael Lamb are also running to replace Ravenstahl. City residents will vote on the next mayor in the May 21 primary.
