Police: 5 children/teens robbed at gunpoint in Frick Park

PITTSBURGH — A mother said her children, ages 11 and 17, and their three friends were robbed by two men with a gun in Frick Park.

“At first the kids thought it was a joke.  Maybe it was just some kids that they knew, but as they got closer and pulled the gun out, they knew it was real.  The one boy got hit.  They just compiled and gave up all their stuff,” said the mother.

Police said the incident happened last night.

“One of them was pistol-whipped.  They were thrown on the ground, and their phones were taken,” said the mother.

Police said another robbery took place nearby 20 minutes after the park incident.  A 43-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint, and police believe the robberies are connected.

“It’s a shame the kids can’t go to a park,” said the mother.

One of the children was treated at Children’s Hospital for a gash on the ear.
