Police ask for public's assistance investigating Hill District shooting

PITTSBURGH — Police are investigating after a man was shot early Tuesday morning in the Hill District.

Authorities said the victim was shot once just after midnight and went into a nearby apartment at Bedford Dwellings.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released, but officials said he’s been upgraded from critical condition.

No arrests have been made and police aren’t sure of a motive.

Tuesday morning’s shooting comes one day after the city of Pittsburgh announced it plans on cracking down on violent crimes.

There have been 14 homicides in the city since July 1. Police say nearly half of the 44 murders this year have been in Zone 5, the area surrounding East liberty, Homewood and Highland Park.

Mayor Bill Peduto and other city leaders said police can’t take back the streets alone. They’re asking everyone to help report suspicious activity and crime.
