• Police: Woman killed in apparent murder-suicide was shot while attempting to leave

    Updated:

Center Township, Pa. - Investigators said a man who shot and killed his girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself likely shot the woman as she was attempting to leave his home.

Troopers said they rushed to a home along Brown Road in Center Township after calls came in about a shooting early Saturday morning.

When troopers arrived, they said they found Sonja Kummer, 45, and her boyfriend, Dean Clawson, 49, dead.

Police said Clawson fatally shot Kummer outside the home before taking his own life.

Investigators also said Kummer's car was loaded with belongings.

Sources told Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz that police were called to the home in December for a verbal altercation.

Family members said Kummer began dating Clawson about six months ago and after a few months of dating, violence began.
