Police: Drunken baby-sitter passes out, leaves 4-year-old alone

MOON, Pa. — A baby-sitter is facing charges after police said they responded to a Moon Crest home Thursday afternoon and found an unattended 4-year-old girl.

According to Moon police Chief Leo McCarthy, a bus driver was dropping off a 7-year-old girl at the home, but no one answered the door to let the child inside.

The bus driver told police he looked in a window of the home and saw a small child running around, but no one was answering his knocks.

"The bus driver did a really good job," McCarthy said.

McCarthy said the bus driver then called police, who came to the home and found a 4-year-old girl crying, naked in an empty bathtub, covered in feces.

"A 7-year-old and 4-year-old unsupervised? It can't happen and we won't tolerate it," McCarthy said.

Authorities said they found Peter Weaver, 31, passed out drunk in a nearby bed. After several attempts to wake him up, the officers woke Weaver.

"She kept hollering at him and there was no response so she started shaking him. There was still no response until she pulled the covers. He finally woke up and he was wearing nothing but underwear," McCarthy said.

Weaver is facing endangering the welfare of children charges. Officials said they don't believe the kids' parents will be charged.
