Police investigate mysterious death of man found on Carnegie street

CARNEGIE, Pa. — Police in Carnegie are investigating the mysterious death of a man who was found lying on a Carnegie street early Friday morning.

Investigators said the 53-year-old man lived at an extended stay hotel and was found a few blocks away on North Bell Avenue.

Officers said the man was lying on the roadway with several injuries. He was taken to  Allegheny General Hospital, where he later died.

Detectives said the man suffered severe head and chest injuries -- though they are not sure how those injuries were sustained.

"The only thing we can throw out there is possibly he was hit by a car, a hit and run, where he was found. There is also a hillside. I guess there is a possibility he fell down the hill,” said Carnegie police Sgt. Jeffrey Kennedy. "Our officers did find a shoe in the bushes near where the body was found and we're not sure if that shoe came off as a result of a car accident or maybe falling down a hill."

The man’s name has not been released.

"Anybody around 12:30 in the morning that was on Bell Avenue or remembers seeing anything -- it would be great if they would call us or Allegheny County homicide," Kennedy said.

Police continue to investigate.
