Police: Man attacked inside his Carmichaels' store

CARMICHAELS, Pa. — A 68-year-old man is recovering after being violently attacked inside a store he owns in Carmichaels on Wednesday, police said.

According to police, Rich Rosendale was alone inside the store when a man walked through the door and tackled him.

Rosendale had been tied up with electrical tape and had duct tape on his eyes and face, police said.

"I could hear Rich asking 'What do you want?' while the suspect was hitting him," said Eric Smith who works across the street.

Smith said he called 911 after he saw a man lurking around the building.  He then walked over to check things out.

Rosendale credits Smith with saving his life.

"I didn't know there were real angels," he said.

“Everybody knows him (Rosendale). He does a lot of work with disadvantaged kids in the area. He's a great guy.  He didn't deserve any of this,” said Smith.

A suspect was arrested.
