Police: Man shoots estranged girlfriend's mom before killing self

EAST BRADY, Pa. — A 26-year-old man is dead after what police said was an apparent attempted homicide-suicide in Clarion County early Sunday morning.

According to police, Bryan Collar forcibly entered his estranged girlfriend's East Brady Borough home around 2:30 a.m. armed with a gun.

Investigators said Collar shot her 59-year-old mother as she fled the living room.

Collar then fired another shot in the direction of his estranged girlfriend's 61-year-old father as he approached, police said.

According to police, the father was able to disarm Collar, who eventually got away and went home, where he died a short time later from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"You think, 'Living in a small town like this?'  You only see that on television that something like this happens. Never in a million years do you think it would and unfortunately it did," said the ex-girlfriend's brother, Kody Craig.

Their mother is being treated at an area hospital for a gunshot wound to the lower extremity.

Craig said his father suffered serious injuries to his shoulder and ribs.

"My dad has always been there for us. He has protected us since we were little.  I'm glad he was here," said Craig.

Craig said what happened has everyone involved shaken.

"I understand that it's my family and I feel really bad for them.  That's my number one concern, but I understand that someone else lost a son and brother.  I give my condolences and sympathy to them too," said Craig.
