Police: Surveillance shows woman assaulting child inside local Walmart

CARNEGIE, Pa. — A woman is facing multiple charges after she was seen on surveillance video assaulting a child inside a Scott Township Walmart, according to police.

According to police, an off-duty security guard reportedly witnessed Denette Filmer punch her 3-year-old boy inside the Walmart on Route 50 in Carnegie.

Investigators said the video allegedly shows Filmer, 41, dragging the child on the floor as well.

"The mother was dragging the child across the floor.  At one point, she held him down on the floor by kneeling on him," said Sgt. Jeff Skees.

Detectives said Filmer told them her son has attention deficit disorder, and she was simply disciplining him.

According to police, witnesses said while the woman and her boyfriend drove out of the parking lot, the boy was standing in the back seat and hanging out of the car window.

Police told Channel 11's Renee Kaminski that Filmer is getting a summons in the mail and is charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of children.
