Police: Suspected drunken driver crashes with 2 kids in car

PITTSBURGH — Police arrested a man accused of driving drunk when he crashed his pickup truck early Monday morning in the Liberty Tunnel.

Authorities said the accident was reported around 1:30 a.m. Monday in the inbound Liberty Tunnel.

According to court paperwork, a Port Authority bus driver first alerted police that a truck was swerving all over the road on Bausman Street.

That bus driver said he followed the truck onto Saw Mill Run Boulevard and into the Liberty Tunnel.

The bus driver told investigators the truck didn’t stop when it hit a concrete wall at the entrance of the tunnel. The driver said the truck eventually stopped when it crashed into a concrete barrier inside the tunnel.

When police got to the scene, they found Eugeino Solis-Mondragen, his wife and their 1- and 3-year-old children in the car. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Solis-Mondragen was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for a blood test. A police officer took the woman and children to their home.

Solis-Mondragen is charged with endangering the welfare of children, DUI and careless driving, police said.
