PITTSBURGH — The investigation continues after Pittsburgh police say a man was attacked on Smithfield Street and is now in the hospital.
A police investigative report details what led up to the encounter between a man and at least two other people, one of whom is a teenager.
The report references video that shows the teenager grabbed him by the backpack and pulls him to the ground. When he got up, another person punched him in the face, causing him to hit his head on a building.
The teenage suspect told police it all happened because the man was inappropriately touching others, but police are still looking into that accusation.
The man is in critical condition but stable.
The teenage suspect is currently in Western Psych. He was also wanted on a juvenile warrant.
Police said he can’t go to a juvenile detention facility because of a lack of housing after the Schuman Detention Center closed last fall. His mother said he has been violent to family members.
He faces a harassment charge, but that could be upgraded.
