Police: Woman gambled $1M she stole from firm

MERCER, Pa. (AP) — Police say an East Lackawannock Township woman charged with stealing more than $1 million from her employer since 2008 told them she "gambled the money away" at $10 slot machines.

Jeanne Zacherl, 64, turned herself in on theft charges Tuesday and faces a Nov. 15 preliminary hearing.

Hermitage police said Zacherl stole the money by creating fake vendor accounts when she was the accounts payable manager at Interstate Chemical Co.

According to police, she had 22 years with the company, which employed her husband for 27 years as a truck driver. Police said he didn't know about the alleged thefts.

Zacherl told police she lost the money at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort in Chester, W.Va.
