Police: Woman hid stolen wedding money in bra

CHICORA, Pa. (AP) — A Chicora woman has been charged with stealing money from wedding cards brought to a reception she was attending -- and trying to hide the loot in her bra.

State police said Jennifer Ann Martz, 40, attended the wedding Saturday with her boyfriend, who was an invited guest.

According to police, guests saw Martz heading to the ladies room after they found 11 cards missing from a gift table.

Nicole Scherer, the bride, said, “I was the one who put two and two together.”

Police said Martz ripped up the cards and tried to flush them down a toilet, while stuffing $475 in cash and $80 in checks into her bra. That's where other female guests told police they found the loot.

The groom's brother, Jeremy Scherer, said Martz "ruined the whole time for everybody."

“It’s not so much about the money and the checks. It’s about the cards, it has more value to it,” said Scherer.
