Prantl’s ‘one-ton cake’ goes on sale after Pittsburgh’s Light Up Night

PITTSBURGH — Prantl’s “one-ton cake” went on sale in Pittsburgh Sunday.

The cake is 8 feet tall and 8 feet wide.

It was modeled to look like the Highmark building and Christmas tree and was made specifically for the city’s Light Up Night.

Prantl’s sold parts of the cake in Market Square for 7 hours to anyone who stopped by.

The cake took over 16 hundred pounds of flour, 350 pounds of powdered sugar and 200 pounds of almonds to make.

Slices were selling for $5 a piece and were burnt almond torte flavored.

All leftover slices will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Foodbank.
