Residents along Route 130 in Trafford concerned about speeders

TRAFFORD, Pa. — Route 130/Seventh Street Extension is a main road in Trafford with a 35 MPH speed limit that neighbors say is often plagued by speeding.

“Cars seem to drive at an excessive speed,” said James Lombardo, who lives nearby, in Trafford.

Community members brought their concerns before the Borough Council at a recent meeting.

People who live along or near the busy road told council members that drivers frequently go 10-15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

“I don’t want to see anyone get hurt or hit by a car or worse, killed,” said Lombardo.

With the Westmoreland Heritage Trail and a small playground nearby there are often people walking or biking in the area.

“I’d be worried about walking him [his dog] across the road there,” said Drew Oliver, who was walking along the trail Monday morning.

“There’s little kids on bicycles. You know what I mean, it’s an accident waiting to happen, I think, in a lot of ways,” added Lombardo.

Route 130 is a state road so Trafford’s Borough Manager says there’s not much the municipality can do without PennDOT.

She says she’s written a letter to PennDOT requesting a traffic study, but that will likely take a few weeks to complete.

Once completed, the borough and the state can work together to develop and implement further safety plans, if necessary.
