Police Superintendent Graeme Murdoch told The Courier the remains were well off the track, through the trees.
However, friends and family say authorities apparently missed McLean’s body while searching.
They say her body was found just feet off a trail officers searched three months ago. They want to know why and how police missed her body.
Officials have not ruled on the cause of death, however they are not considering any "suspicious circumstances." The case has been turned over to the public prosecutor in Scotland.
McClean was vacationing with her husband and two sons.
