Several IUP students safely escape spreading house fire

INDIANA, Pa. — Firefighters battled flames at two houses Tuesday morning in Indiana Borough.

The blaze was first reported at a home on South Seventh Street around 4:30 a.m. and eventually spread to the home next door.

The second house was filled with Indiana University of Pennsylvania students, according to Channel 11’s Dave Bondy. Thankfully, all of the students were able to escape.

“There were seven people, including myself. Six people live in this blue house and everyone got out OK. Nobody was in the other house at the time, so everybody got out fine, thank God,” one student said.

The student told Bondy IUP officials are allowing the students to stay at a dorm until other arrangements can be made.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
