Shooting, crash leads to SWAT situation in Hill District

PITTSBURGH — Police are looking for the person who shot a jitney driver in the Hill District.

Authorities said officers heard shots being fired and then found the 56-year-old jitney driver in his car, which had run off the side of Kirkpatrick Street and crashed over a hillside.

Officials said the driver, whose name hasn’t been released, had a gunshot wound to his leg. He is in stable condition.

Detectives said they were able to trace phone records to a nearby apartment on Oak Hill Drive.

Police closed nearby roads and the SWAT team was called in, but the shooter wasn’t inside the apartment.

Investigators haven’t released any other details about the shooter, and said they’re not sure about the motive.
