Martin, Snider suspended for actions in bench-clearing incident

PITTSBURGH — According to MLB.com, two Pittsburgh Pirates players were suspended for their roles in a bench-clearing incident on Sunday.

Pirates outfielder Travis Snider was given a two-game suspension while Buccos catcher Russell Martin received a one-game suspension.

Two members of the Milwaukee Brewers were also disciplined.

Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado was suspended for five games. Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez will be forced to sit three games.

The altercation occurred Sunday at PNC Park in the top of the third inning.

The suspended players will also be forced to pay undisclosed fines.

All suspensions were set to take effect Tuesday night, but Channel 11's Alby Oxenreiter reports that the two Pirates players plan to appeal.
