Funeral services today for slain Hempfield Township teacher

None — HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Funeral services are planned for Wednesday for a slain Hempfield Township teacher.

Rebecca Stahl's body was found in a Latrobe field on Friday. Her husband, David Stahl, was charged in her death on Monday.

Students at Derry Middle School in Hempfield Township said they have been paying tribute to their beloved math teacher throughout the week.

Officials at Derry Middle School said Stahl's death has weighed heavy on the students. To help them grieve and honor Stahl, students are wearing a different color that represent their teacher every day.

Students are also wearing ribbons that they plan to give to Stahl's family when the week is over.

Eighth grader Maddie Watkins said she organized the memorials because Stahl was one of her favorite teachers.

"She was kind and caring and you could really tell that she loved what she did.  She cared a lot about the students and the environment she taught in.  She loved being here. You could tell every morning she had a smile on her face even if was a bad day. She brought up everybody's spirit," Watkins said.

Stahl's husband remains in the Westmoreland County Jail on criminal homicide charges.
