Suspects accused of stealing purse from hospital's ER arrested

PITTSBURGH — Two people accused of stealing a patient’s purse from the emergency room at UPMC Mercy Hospital were arrested Wednesday.

The 64-year-old victim from Mt. Washington noticed her purse was missing when she went back to the waiting room after being treated.

According to police, surveillance video showed that when Kimberly Baldwin was leaving, she stuck the purse under her gown and walked out with Steven Lundy, police said.

Authorities said Lundy and Baldwin, who are from Georgia, were spotted at an Amtrak station a short time later about 2 a.m. when an officer recognized them from Mercy’s surveillance footage.

They are both facing charges.

UPMC Mercy Hospital officials said safety and security of patients is a top priority. “We have security cameras throughout the area which were instrumental in the rapid arrests of these suspects,” a representative said.
