• SWAT team surrounds Homewood house; man arrested on Penn Ave.

    PITTSBURGH - A SWAT team surrounded a house in Homewood Saturday morning after reports of a domestic situation.

    According to police, a woman called 911 about 5:30 a.m. and said her boyfriend left the Formosa Way home following a dispute and returned with a gun.

    The woman then left the home with her sisters, police said.

    A SWAT team went to the home in search of the man, but he was not found inside.

    Shortly after 6 a.m., authorities located him a few blocks away near a Rite Aid on Penn Avenue. The man, who has not been identified, was taken into police custody without incident.

    Officers recovered a .38 Special from the man.

    He is facing charges of burglary, simple assault, theft and carrying a firearm without a license.
