Tree falls on homes in Westmoreland County during severe weather

NORTH HUNTINGTON, Pa. — “It’s amazing what Mother Nature can do,” North Huntingdon resident Shannon Huebner told Channel 11.

She noticed multiple trees down as she drove through town Wednesday, after strong storms tore through the area.

“The storms that came through here last night were really scary,” she said.

Earlier on Wednesday, there were 7,000 power outages, and nearly 5,500 of them were in the North Huntingdon Township.

The Grove Nursing Home was operating on generators because they were out of power.

In order to get the lights turned back on throughout the community, West Penn Power had crews come into town from Ohio and Maryland to help out with repairs, clearing trees and cleaning up power lines.

Tom Fisher, who also lives in the township, says three of his trees fell onto his property

“One section fell on the house, the wind blew it over. And the other is still there.”

He says he is thankful no one was injured.

“Very grateful. Obviously that’s the important thing, nobody was hurt.”

By the end of the day, there were only 70 outages in the area.
