• Water to flow again from Point State Park fountain

    Updated:

PITTSBURGH - The landmark fountain at Point State Park will start flowing again at the end of next week, according to state Sen. Wayne Fontana, D-Brookline.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which oversees state parks, closed the fountain in October for the winter.

One of Pittsburgh's major tourist attractions, the fountain had been closed for four years prior to June due to an $11.6 million renovation. Visitors to the park dropped by about half during the renovations to about 1.5 million annually.

Attendance last year was boosted by about 700,000 with the arrival of a giant Rubber Duck art installation for about three weeks.
