• Woman, 16-year-old hospitalized after separate Pittsburgh shootings

    PITTSBURGH - Police are investigating two shootings that happened overnight Friday.

    The first shooting happened between two vehicles in Homewood about 8:30 p.m., police said.

    According to investigators, the shots were fired at an SUV from a red vehicle on Kelly Street. A young woman driving the SUV was shot twice in the upper neck. She then lost control of the SUV, which hit a parked car and went off the road.

    A male passenger in the SUV fled the area before police arrived.

    The woman was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Her condition has not been released.

    Downtown, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder shortly before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Strawberry Way and William Penn Place.

    Police said the boy was with a friend when he was shot. They were able to ask a security guard at a building on Seventh Street for help.

    The teenager was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital. His condition has not been made available.
