Mother of 6 killed in Beltzhoover shooting

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police said a 28-year-old woman was killed and a man was injured in a shooting in the city's Beltzhoover neighborhood early Thursday morning.

Investigators said the shooting happened just before 2 a.m. near the intersection of Vincent Street and East Warrington Avenue.

Police said Tiona Jackson, of Pittsburgh, was found lying on the street between two cars. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A 32-year-old male victim was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital to be treated for critical injuries, police said. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Jackson’s neighbors told Channel 11 News that she was a great mother who was raising six children on her own.

“I don’t understand why she was shot. She has six kids. Who’s going to take care of them?” a neighbor said. “She usually had all the kids with her after work.”

So far, police have not released any information on suspects or motive. Investigators said they are also working to determine if this was a drive-by shooting.
