Woman attacked by dog in Mt. Washington

PITTSBURGH — A woman is recovering after a dog attack in Mount Washington.

“She was bitten on the hand, but the amazing thing about this is the dog has already attacked four other people, that we know of, and killed another dog,” said Gerald Akrie of Pittsburgh Animal Control.

The woman bitten was out walking her dog when the attack happened along Candace Avenue around noon on Monday.

The dog was a 200-pound Turkish German shepherd who got loose just like he did last month.

“There was a 90-year-old man walking his Yorkie.  The dog was friendly toward him but then jumped up, snatched the dog out of his arms, literally killed the dog and ran off with the dog in its mouth,” said Akrie.

The owner of the larger dog turned it over to Animal Control officers and it was taken to the Animal Rescue League, where it was put to sleep.
