Woman uses hammer to scare off burglars at Lawrence County home

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A 72-year-old woman said she used a hammer to scare of intruders at her Lawrence County rental property last weekend.

Barbara Rogers said she received a call that her property on Cleveland Avenue in New Castle was being burglarized.

Rogers said she called police and went to the home to confront the four suspects herself. Rogers said she owns a gun but grabbed a hammer she keeps in her car instead.

"I picked up a hammer in my truck and said, 'They are not going to do me in.' So as they came out I said, 'Don’t' do nothing cause the cops have already been called,'" said Rogers.

Rogers said police arrived quickly and the two men and two women were arrested. All four people are facing trespassing charges.
