Authorities said when the officer rolled down his window to ask what was wrong, Hoy lunged in through the window and started punching the officer.

"An unprovoked attack on an officer can't be tolerated by anybody," Bellevue Police Chief Matthew Sentner said.

The officer got out of the car and was able to subdue Hoy on the ground.

Police said Hoy shouted “Black Lives Matter” as he was being taken into custody.

Hoy is facing a number of charges, including aggravated assault.

The officer may have suffered a broken nose, but he is expected to return to work soon.

Police said Hoy has not had any previous confrontations with police.
