National Night Out event held in Pittsburgh to stop the violence

PITTSBURGH — A National Night Out event was held at the Westwood swimming pool in Pittsburgh Tuesday.

The event is held across the country in hopes of stopping the violence.

Dozens of people, including Pittsburgh police officers and officials, attended the event.

"We have to reassure people that what is happening is isolated.  We need to protect those who are innocent," said Mayor Bill Peduto.

So far this year, 44 people have been killed in Pittsburgh.  In all of 2013, 46 were murdered.
