MANOR, Texas — A massive food fight involving 500 students erupted at a high school in Texas on Tuesday during lunch.

The event started in the Manor High School cafeteria, then spilled into the courtyard, where administrators were concerned hundreds more would join the fray during the lunch transitions — since the school has three lunch periods. Four of the district’s security officers, two from the high school and two from the middle school, worked to restore order before Manor police were called to assist. It is unclear how many students were disciplined as a result of the event.

It took 20 minutes for the campus to regain control and get students back to their classrooms, according to a letter sent to staff from principal Emilio Vargas.

Students received sack lunches Wednesday, which were eaten in their classrooms. Central office staff will be pitching in to monitor students during lunch for the remainder of the school year. Classes end next Thursday.

Rumors of a senior prank are also on the radar of district administrators, and high school students will be asked to leave backpacks at home through the end of the school year.

The school has about 1,700 students.
