BRISTOL, Tenn. — A Tennessee man was charged with attempted second-degree murder after a fight with his son that involved a chainsaw and lawnmower and led to the amputation of his leg, the Bristol Herald Courier reported.
Douglas Ferguson, 76, was charged Tuesday in the June 28 incident. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office delayed the arrest because of the severity Ferguson’s injuries, which forced the amputation of his leg, the newspaper reported. It was unclear which leg was amputated.
According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, Ferguson allegedly tried to use a running chainsaw to attack his son, who was mowing the yard. The son, who has not been identified by police, defended himself by running over Ferguson with the mower, the Herald Courier reported.
Police found Ferguson bleeding from the head and leg, the newspaper reported.
In addition to the attempted second-degree murder charge, Ferguson was served with a violation of probation warrant on an original charge of aggravated assault.
Sullivan remains in jail, and bail was set at $25,000, the Herald Courier reported.
