Pittsburgh man accused of sex crimes against 14-year-old

A Pittsburgh man is facing numerous charges on accusations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl he met online.

Daniel Kundrat, 33, of Patrick Street, was arrested Thursday and charged with three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, a felony count of unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors.

According to court documents, Kundrat and the girl started an online relationship, messaging and texting each other nude photos and videos. The girl said Kundrat told her he was 18 years old. The two agreed that Kundrat would go to the child’s home in the Columbus, Ohio, area to pick her up. Ultimately, it was disclosed that he was 33 years old.

On August 10, according to police documents, Kundrat picked the child up at her home and drove her back to his home on Patrick Street. The girls’ mother reported her as a missing juvenile when the child left home that day.

By tracing the IP address for online activity, investigators determined that the girl was at a McDonald’s restaurant in the Shaler area. Agents from the Pittsburgh Task Force responded to the restaurant on William Flynn Highway, where they recovered the child and took Kundrat into custody.

Agents said they recognized Kundrat from a recent child pornography case, in which the task force charged Kundrat with child pornography offenses.

Police said Kundrat admitted to knowing the girl was 14 and engaging in sexual activity with her. During the course of the investigation, the FBI discovered that Kundrat had been producing pornographic videos with the girl and selling them online.

At the time of his arrest Thursday, Kundrat was out on bond and awaiting trial on other child pornography charges.

The investigation was a collaborative effort, including the FBI and the Western Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The girl was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital and is back home with her family.  Kundrat’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 15.
