PITTSBURGH — A crash inside the Fort Pitt Tunnel was caused by a drunken driver who was headed in the wrong direction, according to state police.

The accident was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the outbound lanes.

Police said Jacob Pamphyle, 27, of Pittsburgh, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an ambulance head-on.

There were no patients in the ambulance and no one was hurt.

Pamphyle was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Police said he was driving with a suspended license.

Since Pamphyle had no outstanding warrants, troopers said he was taken to a hospital and was treated and released.
