Mom and military wife makes us Proud to be from Pittsburgh

Every piece of fabric that hangs on a rack in Brook Brewer’s house has a story, a journey.

Brook showed us military uniforms that her husband wore in Afghanistan and one from her uncle in the Navy.

She’s transforming them into jewelry items like earrings and bracelets.

This mom and military wife wanted a way to feel closer to her husband, Staff Sgt. Kris Brewer, when he was deployed.

“You go to bed every night with his shirt on. You sleep on his side of the bed,” said Brook. “It is just is so meaningful to carry something around with you every minute of the day.”

When the pandemic forced the Army reservist to return home early from his most recent deployment, Brook’s jewelry idea came to life.

“A lot of it was the sentimental connection between her and I,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Brewer of the 2nd Batallion of 312th Regiment. “She wanted to blossom and grow into something she felt could help others.”

Brook is doing just that, in more ways than one. Not only can folks send in their loved ones’ uniforms, which she will create a keepsake from, but Brook also donates the money she makes at trunk shows to organizations helping military families.

“I want to bring the military awareness out and I want people to take pride in their country because what they do is so selfless,” said Brook. “So rock a pair of earrings!”

“It’s a very proud moment. It’s always a reminder to me that it’s not so much about what I’ve done, but what she’s done,” said

Staff Sgt. Brewer. “The support that she’s given and what she has given up so that I could do what I needed to do.”

Brook also makes jewelry out of medical uniforms. If you’d like to connect with her, here is her website:
