Proud to be from Pittsburgh: Matt's Maker Space

In a few local elementary schools, children are practicing a new way of learning with their hands.

In “Matt’s Maker Space,” kids get to experiment with 3D printers, graphic design and woodworking, all made possible because of a family who lost their son to cancer when he was just 12 years old.

“I always thought Matt was going to survive cancer, and then he would go all around the world and tell his story,” said his mother, Noelle Conover. “I now realize I’m the one who is supposed to be telling his story.”

The family donated a maker space into each elementary school so no child will forget Matt, who loved to tinker and dream.

Schools and community centers can apply to be considered for future maker spaces.
