Security guard shoots accused hit-and-run driver in shoulder

PITTSBURGH — A driver who ran over a security guard was shot in the shoulder by a second guard as he tried to flee, police said.

Raphael David Caruso, 31, of Central Northside, is facing charges in connection with the incident Saturday at Sandusky Court in Fineview.

Police said the two security guards noticed Caruso drive onto the property and park behind a building. The guards recognized him as someone who did not belong on the property, police said.

After being confronted by the security guards, Caruso ran over one of them. As Caruso fled in the car, the other guard shot at the vehicle, striking Caruso in the shoulder.

Both the guard who was struck by the car and Caruso are in stable condition at Allegheny General Hospital.
