Strong storms move east; Better weather to follow

PITTSBURGH — Severe Weather Team 11 Meteorologist Kevin Benson said that strong thunderstorms, with severe potential, moved through the Channel 11 News viewing area late Tuesday afternoon and persisted into the early evening.

Severe thunderstorm warnings that had been issued for Allegheny, Armstrong, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties were allowed to expire. As was a flood advisory for poor drainage areas of Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties. ... Large hail, potentially damaging winds and heavy downpours were all associated with the system, which continued its eastward progression at approximately 15 mph.

Benson said that, behind the front, most locations should see greatly improved weather in advance of a pleasant midweek. Conditions will be dry for the next three days with high temperatures right around the 80-degree mark.
