Struggling businesses hope lawmakers release millions in survival funds

ZELIENOPLE — As the economy continues to struggle due to the COVID-19 pandemic, non-profits like the Strand Theater in Zelienople are turning to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf for financial help.

Jeremy Czarniak tells Channel 11 at the start of the pandemic, the non-profit was forced to shut down; now the theater can operate at only 10%, which means just 30 people can attend programs.

For museums and theaters, getting a grant to stay open during the pandemic has been difficult.

As of Thursday, Governor Wolf has allocated $145 million to be distributed to state organizations, but who qualifies is still unknown.

“We have found $145 million. I think this creative work and transferred to the general fund.

The new money will be ready to go out,” said Gov. Wolf.

The funding is available now, but the state legislature has not released it.

Small businesses and organizations like the Strand Theater are hoping that the money is available soon.
