ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — A student made an unspecified threat on social media against the East Allegheny School District and they are now facing charges.

Despite the President’s Day holiday, the district was in session on Monday. School officials said the student in question was disciplined and the district is pursuing charges.

School administrators sent Channel 11 the following statement in response to the alleged threat:

“The East Allegheny School District’s primary concern has been and will continue to focus upon the safety of all students, staff members, and visitors within the School District. The administration has reviewed and will continue to review and apply all policies and procedures concerning any violation concerning a treat to the East Allegheny School District. We have reviewed every individual item concerning this social media threat with internal and local law enforcement, the parents and the student directly involved. Once again, our responsibilities will remain focused on the safety and security of all students attending the East Allegheny School District school buildings and those East Allegheny students attending private, parochial or charter schools. Through teamwork and cooperation, the East Allegheny School District, our community members, and staff members will continue to resolve these issues and allow all students to receive an appropriate education in a safe and secure manner.”

One parent, however, says they were never notified.

“There’s been many threats before and nothing seems to be getting done. There’s needs to be more publicity brought onto this school because it doesn’t seem to be getting out there when something happens at East Allegheny," said one mother.
