Thousands without power early Sunday as high winds scream through region

PITTSBURGH — Strong winds with gusts as high as 50 mph have left thousands of people in the dark Sunday.

By 1 p.m. the numbers of those without power were dwindling as crews got a handle on the widespread issues.

Early Sunday morning, West Penn Power was reporting over 16,000 customers without power. Duquesne Light has over 800 people in the dark.
