11 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend (9/14-9/16)

PITTSBURGH — There's a whole lot going on in and around Pittsburgh this weekend, including the circus, a haunted house opening and the Steelers home opener.

Shrine Circus

Various Times - PPG Paints Arena

The Syria Shrine Circus is Pittsburgh’s oldest continuous family show. Some of the biggest names in the Circus World have appeared at the Syria Shrine Circus, including the Great Wallendas, Bozo the Clown, and Bello Nock. The Shrine Circus features performing animals like elephants, tigers, horses, pigs, monkeys, bears, dogs and horses. All the animals are privately owned and trained by professionals, as well as being licensed and regulated by the USDA.

John Oates

Friday, 7:30 p.m. - Carnegie Lecture Hall

John Oates, one half of the famed Hall & Oates, is bringing his solo tour to Pittsburgh. His show takes place at the intimate Carnegie Lecture Hall and tickets can be purchased for as little as $20.

Scare House Opening Weekend

Weekends, Sept. 14 to Nov. 3 - Etna

Known as one of America's scariest Halloween attractions, Scare House is back this fall for all to enjoy. New this year, is Pittsburgh Zombies: Re-Animated, the next tribute to Pittsburgh's Living Dead Legacy, which brings you face to face with hordes of hungry zombies.

Food Truck A Palooza

Sunday, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Rivers Casino

As summer quickly turns into fall, we are gearing up for our annual Food Truck A Palooza! With more than 40 trucks, it's easy to find your favorite fare! This year there are also magicians, live music, jugglers and everything in between. Organizers promise to make the wait in line a memorable one!

Big Pour

Saturday, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Construction Junction

For the 12th year, Construction Junction is hosting a beer and food fundraiser to help support programs related to material reuse in Pennsylvania. Sample beer from Couch Brewery, Enix Brewing Co., Grist House Rivertowne Brewing and many more while eating food from Burgatory, Franktuary, Mad Mex and others.

Celtic Thunder

Sunday, 8 p.m. - Benedum Center

The Celtic Thunder ‘X’ show will be hitting the road to celebrate the launch of the Celtic Thunder “X” CD & DVD. Damian, Ryan, Michael, Emmet & Neil will be performing brand new ensemble numbers including “Sons of Light”, “Toora, Loora, Lay”, “The Wild Rover”, “Right is Right”, and “Castle on the Hill”. Amongst the many other fabulous new solo numbers and classics to savour will be nostalgic fun songs “Celebration”, “I’m a Believer”, “Seasons in the Sun” and “Rise Again”. The show will as always be backed up by the amazing Celtic Thunder Band.

Steelers vs Chiefs

Sunday, 1 p.m. - Heinz Field

The Steelers started this season with a bit of a bust at Cleveland, but hopefully the home open has a better outcome. We're sure the North Shore will be packed for this game, so if you're tailgating or just trying to get around be sure to give yourself plenty of time.

Community Mutt Strut

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Frick Park

The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that 22 veterans a day commit suicide. PNC has partnered with Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, Inc to change that. Through our annual Community Mutt Strut, we have raised over $500,000 to fund the training of medical service dogs for veterans struggling with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Traumatic Brain Injury, and other combat-related injuries.

Yoga at the Waterfront

Saturday, 8:30 a.m. - The Waterfront

Join us for a special 1-hour yoga classes. This event is free to all members and guests, so come ohmmmm come all!

2018 Beaver Wine Festival

Saturday, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Third Street, Beaver

The wide thoroughfare and tree-lined streets make an excellent backdrop to what is now considered to be the premier “small town” wine event in the Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania areas. This year’s festival will host 15 of Pennsylvania’s best wineries, local food trucks, and talented musicians. To accommodate these great activities, we have added another hour to extend the fun!

Clam Bake

Friday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Oxford Market (301 Grant St., Pittsburgh)

Pittsburgh's newest food hall, Oxford Market, is hosting a killer clambake to celebrate the end of the season. Enjoy clams, mussels, red potatoes, fresh corn and andouille sausage in a traditional white wine and Old Bay seasoned broth. Served alongside freshly grilled bread for $15.99, this feast is made to share.  Southern Tier Brewing Company will be providing a tasting of two popular beers, Nu Skool IPA and 8 Days a Week, and Craig Street Acoustic will be performing live on the patio stage at 5pm.

The ocean will seem a lot closer on Sept. 14 when we host our first clambake from 5–7 PM on the patio. Craig Street...
