2 killed in weekend shootings in Homewood

PITTSBURGH — A 20-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning inside a bar in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood, police said.

Sean Lyons was shot about 4:30 a.m. while at the New Brotherhood Motorcycle Club near the intersection of Kelly Street and Brushton Avenue.

Police and paramedics responded and pronounced Lyons dead at the scene.

Further information was not immediately available, but Sunday’s fatal shooting was the second within about 24 hours in the area.

While Lyons was inside the motorcycle club when he was shot, the victim in Saturday’s shooting had left the same club soon before he was killed.

Michael Leonard, 33, died early Saturday when someone opened fire on the car he and his girlfriend were in. The couple’s friend, Angel Jackson, told Channel 11 News that they had stopped at the motorcycle club before the shooting and Leonard had gotten into a fight.

“They were having a good time barhopping, and that was the last bar they went to,” Jackson said.

“It’s important that we stand up and speak up, and only then will this type of thing stop happening,” Maurice Trent said.

Investigators said since January of 2016, police have responded to a hit-and-run and shot spotter notification.

The recent violence in the area has caught the attention of the district attorney’s office.

"We plan to reach out to them this week to try and schedule a meeting to talk about what happened,” the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

Police have not announced arrests or named any suspects in either shooting.
